Workplace violence is prevalent in American society, and it can impact any type of organization – public or private, big or small, office or manufacturing. However, there are ways that organizations can prepare to minimize the impact.

Unison Risk Advisors teamed up with Leo DiCesare, co-founder of Pinnacle Global Professionals, to present Strength in Numbers: Prevention, Response and Recovery Strategies for Active Assailant and Workplace Violence. Watch the full webinar on demand. Passcode: Prevention24!

Also on the panel are David Hosier, risk management consultant with Oswald Companies; Greg Hart, risk consultant with RCM&D; and Juan Hernandez, commercial insurance leader with NSI.

While each situation is unique in some ways, there are many similarities in the ways that assailants act. As a result, there are steps every organization can take to protect employees and operations.

The first step is to implement administrative programs such as safety management and workplace violence prevention training. Teach employees to know the warning signs of an escalating situation or a person’s mood.

Next, choose the response strategy that works best for your organization. Some of the more common strategies are the Run, Hide, Fight method or ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate).

Mandatory training for employees will help them better execute such plans when needed.

Implement physical security measures such as monitored cameras and controlled access to buildings.

However, even with proper training, any organization is still susceptible to workplace violence. Knowing your insurance policy exclusions and understanding what triggers your coverage can help hasten recovery.

Watch the full webinar for many more helpful tips on prevention, response and recovery in the event an active assailant targets your organization.
